Accommodation

Camping – In the Green Forest, on the opposite side of the city from Timisoara-Nord train station, Padurea Verde camp site is operating. From the station, you go here by tram #1 (black number), you have to ask to be dropped off at the campsite. The road from the bus stop through the forest is unmarked. There is an on-site 50 small houses (3 $ from person) and a restaurant; you pay for pitching a two-person tent 2 $. The campsite is open from June to mid-September.

Hotels – Najtańszy hotel w Timisoarze to Casa Tineretului (tel.162419), or "youth house” – big, modern building at strada Aries, ok. 2 km south of the center. A room without a bathroom costs money 6 $ from person. From the train station you go by tram #8 do strada Aries.

Of the five city-center hotels, Banatul has the most reasonable prices (tel.191903), Republic Boulevard 5. The rooms in the adjoining annexe have been partially renovated 1995 r., but even the ones not renovated are fine. There is a fee for a single / double room with a bathroom 15/26 $.

The second and last inexpensive hotel in downtown is the Nord (tel.197504), General Dragalina street 47, around the corner from Timisoara-Nord train station. Rooms (18/25 $) they are a bit neglected, but management is trying, so that guests have no reason to complain.

You have to pay a little more at the Central Hotel (tel.190091), next to the Studio cinema, at the Lenau strade 6 (single / double / triple with bathroom 21/30/45 $). Unfortunately, the hotel is small and often full of guests.

Hotel vouchers are best used in the modern 11-story Timisoara hotel (tel.198854), Street 1 May 2, next to the Opera House (rear entrance). Without coupons, the night costs here 42/53 $.

At the 3-star Continental Hotel (tel.131144), boulevard Revolutiei koło Parcul Civic, you have to pay for a room 45/60 $.

Gastronomy

Bulevard Restaurant, on Piata Victoriei opposite the Opera House, it is very elegant, but in Timisoara you go to dinner at the restaurant at the Hotel Banatul, at the nearby bulevardul Republicii.

Cina Restaurant, Craiului street 4, shares the kitchen with Hotel Banatul, but has a nicer atmosphere.

The best place at Piata Unirii is the Unirea restaurant, next to the Catholic cathedral, with tables in the square and a small dining area in the middle.

The smell alone is enough for a recommendation for the nearby BM Croissant bakery, Ungureanu street 10, tempting with fresh pastries. Many of them disappear by the latest 10.00. The store is closed on Sunday.

At the Cram Bastion winery, in the eighteenth-century city fortifications, you can order several meat and rice dishes. There is also a large beer garden.

At the foot of Bredicean, near the intersection with the strada 1 May, the fruit market is open – vegetable.

Entertainment

China – Films in the original language (mostly American) shows the Studio cinema, Leanu street, next to the Central Hotel, and the Timis cinema, at Piata Victoriei, next to the telephone exchange.

Discos – From October to May, discos are organized in the student cultural center (Student Culture House), Youth Boulevard 9. It is located on the corner of General Dragalina Strada, three blocks south of the train station. A tram passes here #1.

Theater and classical music – Theater Agency (theatrical box office) located on the Marasesti strada 2, next to the Timisoara hotel. At the Opera and the State Philharmonic Theater, performances by professional actors and student groups are staged throughout the year..

Journey

Plane – Once a week, a TAROM plane flies from Timisoara to Bucharest, Jass i Konstancy. Bookings on the international Malev and Delta routes are handled by Cardinal. Buses to the airport leave every day from the TAROM office on the Revolutiei boulevard 3-5 o 7.45, 12.00, 15.00 i 18.00 (1 $).

Train – Direct express lines run from Timisoara to Jass via Cluj and Suceava. You can get to Arad by local trains (57 km, 1,5 time.). There are several trains to Bucharest via Baile Herculane, Orsovę, Drobeta-Turnu Severin and Krajowa (534 km, 8 time.). The warehouse includes carriages with couchettes.

To Yugoslavia – Two express lines a day leave Timisoara for Belgrade: Bucharest o 5.02 (in Belgrade there is Fr. 9.23), a Banat o 18.09 (arrival of Fr. 22.15); advance reservations are required for both. Tickets for international connections can be purchased at the CFR box office at bulevardul Republicii 1, in front of the Opera House (not at the train station).

Bus – There are daily buses from Timisoara to several cities in Hungary: Bekescsaby (138 km), Bai (257 km) in Szeged (157 km). The bus leaves for Budapest once a week (327 km, 8 time., 8 $). The international ticket office is open Mon-Fri. 9.00-17.00, usually you can also buy tickets from the driver.
