Dobruja

Dobruja (Dobrogea) lies on the Black Sea, bounded to the east by the Danube bed, and to the north its delta. The northern border of Dobruja is also the state border with Ukraine, the southern one – section of the border with Bulgaria. The Dobruja Upland was created as a result of the erosion of the old rock mass, flattened to the size of low hills (the highest peak in the Pricopan range, Thtuiatul, ma 467 m n.p.m.). The climate is mild here, and the winters are the warmest in the whole country.

HISTORY

Dobruja was attached to Romania in 1878 r., when Romanian-Russian forces pushed the Turks out of Bulgaria.

Settlement already existed here in the early Paleolithic period, the fertile land has been cultivated since 3000 r.p.n.e. Later, nomadic peoples came, then the geto-dacian settlers. The Greeks founded numerous port cities here, np. Callatis, Parthenopolis, History, Tomis i Stratonis. The first Greek merchants settled in 657 r. p.n.e. in away from 70 km from Konstanca Histria. The troops of the warrior king of Persia, Darius, and Alexander of Macedon, who were going north, marched through Dobruja.. W 46 r. n.e. Dobruja came under Roman rule as the province of Lower Moesia (Lower Moesia). W Adamclisi (Trophy of Hraiani) The Romans won a decisive victory over the Ghetto-Dak army, opening its way north of the Danube. Later, Dobruja was captured by the Byzantines, a w 1418 r. Turkish rule began.

The land owes its name to a local prince named Dobrotic, who briefly established an independent principality here, free from Byzantine sovereignty.

Each of the cultures represented by various colonizers and invaders left their clear traces on this land. However, the most striking thing is – due to the preserved construction, especially sacred – influence of Byzantium and Turkey.

INFORMATION

To get to your Pomerania, Inland Romanians have to cross the Danube – or over the bridge from Giurgeni to Vadu Oii, or by ferries running between Braiła and Macin and between Ostrov and Calarasi. The railway bridge connects the villages of Fetesti and Cernavoda.

Gentle, sandy beaches along the southern part of the Romanian Black Sea coast (254 km) they attract more tourists than any other part of the country. In summer, holidaymakers pack into the trains in large numbers, to reach seaside resorts, their bright sands and warm water. In high summer, a fun atmosphere reigns on the coast, feasts take place on the beaches, beer and wine are pouring.

The season starts from mid-May and lasts until the end of September, although many hotels and discos do not open until mid-June and close at the beginning of September. From October to the end of April, the beaches are amazingly calm, the cold scares away holidaymakers. After the high season, only a few hotels accept tourists, and to a limited extent.

The most important holiday resorts are Mamaia, North Ephoria (Eforie Nord), South Eporia (Eforie Sud), Costinesti, Neptune-Olympus, Jupiter, Venus-Aurora, Saturn, Mangaly. Sandy beaches, discos and an all-night party atmosphere at Mamaia and Neptun-Olimp attract crowds of young Romanians, while in Conesti, popular with students, there is a real carnival madness. To the resorts of Saturn, Venus, Aurora and Jupiter come together looking for peace and quiet. North Ephoria, famous for its healing waters, it is mainly visited by elderly tourists from Germany, Austria and France.

Actually, it is impossible to stay cheap here. You can pay for a comfortable room in a hotel from 30 $.

Private accommodation is rare. Persons, who intend to use the hotels from mid-June to August, should make a reservation in advance. If there are no vacancies, hotel passes are a good solution - some hotels do 17.00 they keep vacant rooms especially for pass holders. The passes can be purchased at the Automobil Clubul Roman representative offices (ACR) w Mamai, Eforia North and Neptune-Olimp as well as in Budapest and Constana.

Backpackers without a tent will have little chance of hooking up anywhere. Better to consider staying on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, because the accommodation and food options are much more favorable there, the rooms are cheaper, the beaches are nicer, and there are fewer people.

THE DANUBE-BLACK SEA CHANNEL

A train from Bucharest passes over the Danube in Cernavoda, over a large iron bridge, erected in 1895 r. Cernavoda has the dubious honor of owning Romania's oldest nuclear power plant, built according to Canadian technology. The rail link between the Danube and Constanta runs through Murfaltar, where the best Romanian dessert wines are made. Next, the railway line almost along its entire length (64 km) runs along the Danube-Black Sea Channel. Open in 1984 r. by President Ceausescu, it shortens the waterway from Constana to Cernovod, o 400 km. It is equipped with two airlocks in length 310 m, and its water is used to irrigate the land.

He worked on the construction of the canal for nine years 3000 People, and today it would be difficult to spot any ships. The construction was part of the realization of the eternal dream of Europeans to create a sea route connecting the North Sea with the Black Sea. The project was finalized in 1992 r., when it opened in Germany 171 -kilometer-long canal between the Main and the Danube. Although it is possible to reach Rotterdam from Constana to Rotterdam via the river without any problems (3500 km), for unexplained reasons, barges or ships rarely appear in the canal's waters.

ONT tourist offices organize various bus tours from coastal towns, for example, for an afternoon wine tasting in Murfaltar. People intending to discover the charms and mysteries of the Danube on their own, rather, they should take a course to Tulcea.

  1. I just don't understand the snappy remark “Cernavoda has the dubious honor of owning Romania's oldest nuclear power plant, built according to Canadian technology.” After all, it is the cleanest and very economical form of obtaining energy. There are peacocks in France 80% [sic!] electricity comes from nuclear power plants. Does the author mean it, that we were to live in huts and burn with cow dung?? After all, RES is a fiction, if we take into account the full energy balance (that is the amount of energy needed to build e.g.. such a windmill, its service and resurs).
