Putna

FUCK

In the Putna Monastery (Putna monastery), founded in 1466 r., a group of monks still lives, who sing the evening service every day before sunset. As it was written in front of the entrance to the church:

Putna is the first monastery founded by Stephen the Great, housing princely necropolises and for centuries a true center of Romanian culture, living testimony to the cultural and artistic traditions of the Romanian people, and thus an important school of patriotism.

Inside, Stephen the Great himself is buried (Stephen the Great). The large building behind the monastery houses a small museum of medieval manuscripts and rare 15th-century textiles. The local frescoes are not among the greatest in Bukovina, but it is easy to go here on a day trip from Suceava by train.

Gastronomy

Right outside the monastery gate there is a large tourist complex with a not very expensive hotel, open all year round. You can eat quite decently in the hotel's restaurant. There are numerous mobile homes and a camping site next to the hotel.

Some crash for free in a field across from the rock-cut hermitage of Chilia, near the train station. You go upstream to the wooden bridge and continue along the opposite river bank.

Journey

There are eight local trains a day from Suceava to Putna (73 km, 2 time.). The monastery complex is located at the end of the road, less than 2 km from the station.

You can march from Putny 20 km south to the monastery in Suczewica (ok. 5 time.). You follow the trail marked with blue crosses in white squares, starting at the hermit's cave. After approx 4 km you have to turn left from the road.
