Prejmer i Harman

PREJMER I HARMAN

Prejmer (not M. Taertlauer) is a pretty Saxon village with an impressive 15th century fortress, in the middle of which there is a 13th-century gothic church. W 275 In the event of a siege, local residents took refuge in cells on four floors on the inside of the defensive walls. It is one of the buildings characteristic of these parts called peasant castles. Nowhere else in feudal Europe have such phenomena arose – castles erected at their own expense by peasants without a master, and wishing to protect themselves against the invasion of plunderers. In the Middle Ages, knights built fortified seats for themselves, however, strongholds were built here, in which no one lived on a daily basis. Hence - for understandable reasons – there are no reception halls in peasant castles, large halls or apartments. Similar buildings have been preserved in several places on the route from Brasov to Sighisoara (Homorod, breaking, Bunespti, Sachniz) and on the route from Sighisoara to Sibiu (Ighisul Nou, Tirnava, Valea Viilor, Agent Sever, Rus, Sura Mare i in.).

You can go to Prejmer on a pleasant trip from Brasov, best combined with a trip by train to nearby Harman.

Harman (not M. honey castle) is a Saxon village with a 16th-century citadel in the center. Inside the thick walls there is a time-worn clock tower and a 15th-century church. Colorful houses on the market square, oh great, rounded door-gates and sparse windows, are typical of Saxon times. There are no gardens on the street side, only high walls of fences and walls of houses. Like Prejmer, Harman village has not changed much since the 19th century.
