Accommodation

The nearest camping site is in Mamaia. Agentia de Turism Intern offers accommodation in private houses. If this brokerage is not used, you have to count at least 28-32 $ for a double room. In high season, hotels often have all their places reserved well in advance.

Youth (tel.613590), Tomis Boulevard 24, it's a five story hotel, having neat, clean rooms (25/33 $ for a single / double room with bathroom and breakfast).

Intimate (tel.618258), Nicolae Titulescu street 9, offers singles / doubles with bathroom and breakfast after 35/50 $. This charming old fashioned hotel has an elegant dining room and a nice terrace.

Palas Hotels (tel.614696), Remus Opreanu street 7 In the old town, beautifully situated, overlooking the sea, it is unfortunately expensive. One-, two- or a triple room with private bathroom and breakfast costs accordingly 50, 60, 72 $.

None of the above-mentioned hotels accept hotel passes.

Gastronomy

Constana is not a foodie's paradise, so it is best to stock up on fruit, cheeses and vegetables at the market in a block of Strada 1907, behind the bus stop.

This, who know Turkish cuisine, they can taste simple, typical dishes in the Erzurum restaurant, Tomis Boulevard, next to the Folk Art Museum. It has a buffet and offers the best north of Istanbul cay (tea).

W Varete Confectionery, Tomis Boulevard 25, large pizzas are served after 2 $ and not the worst cakes from the adjoining bakery. This is one of the few restaurants open after 20.30.

In the dark, the smoky restaurant Pescarusul, Vasile Alexandri street 7, contrary to its name, fish are not served, but the simple dishes of potatoes and pork.

Casa Cu Lei is one of the cheap places in Constana (house of lions), on Dianea's walk 1. It is old, coming from 1887 r. building, standing near the mosque in the old town. (You can look for signage, visiting the mosaic museum). Even if you don't come here for dinner, it's worth visiting the nice bar here.

Entertainment

Foreign films are shown in their original version (with Romanian subtitles) in Progresul cinemas, Stephen the Great Street 33, and Republic, Ferdinand Boulevard 58.

Opposite the post office on bulevardul Tomis, na rogu strada Stefan cel Mare, there is the State Drama Theater. The ticket offices are located at Bulevardul Tomis 97, next to the post office. The Fantasio musical theater has an interesting program, przy Ferdinand boulevard 11.

Journey

Plane – TAROM (office at strada Stefan cel Mare 15) from April to October offers flights from Constana to Bucharest. In July and August, planes run to Arad several times a week, Kluża-Napoki, Oradei and Timisoary. These are direct connections, without landing in Bucharest.

The TAROM bus departs from the office to the Mihail Kogalniceanu International Airport (25 km; 0,25 $) na 90 minutes before departure of the plane.

New Frontiers/Simpa Turism (Street 1907 nr 9, tel.660468, fax 664403; pn.-pt. 8.00-17.00), book international flights and arrange car rental.

Bus – If someone is going to the southern part of the Black Sea coast, The bus will be for him a much more convenient form of transport than a slowly slowing train. 50 meters to the right of the train station exit there is always a long line of private buses. Co 30 some minutes leave for Mangalia, stopping at Northern Eforia, Southern Eforia, in the resorts of Neptun-Olimp, Venus i Saturn. You pay with the driver (0,40 $). Also city buses #10, 11, 12 i 20 run along the coast to the south. Tickets for public transport can be purchased at the kiosk, and then it clears on the bus.

To Bulgaria – From the railway station in Constana on Fridays and Saturdays, Fr. 13.00 direct buses to Varna, Bulgaria. The journey takes eight hours. Tickets must be purchased one day in advance from the Danubius travel agency. You can also reach Bulgaria by bus from Mangalia.

Train – Constana has a good express connection with Bucharest's North Railway Station (225 km, 3 time.). In summer, trains also run to Oradea, Timięsary, Thunder, Jass, Suceava, Brasov and Satu Mare. The Ovidius express train travels via Arad from Constana to Budapest at night (Budapest-Keleti; 1069 km; 17 time.; the other way also at night).

Tickets for the above-mentioned connections are purchased the day before at the CFR office, Aleea Vasile Canarache 4, near the Archaeological Museum. Open from Monday to Friday from. 9.00-18.00. (Some tickets for the same day are sold at the station one hour before the train departs).

Passenger trains without seats run north through Medgidia to Tulcea (179 km), south to Mangalia (43 km) and west to the Bucharest-Obor station and to Brasov. Going to the north of Romania, you have to take the train to Fetesti (79 km) and change at Faurei (do Jass) lub w Buzau (to Suceava).

Ferry – Office Danubius (tel.615836, fax 618010; pn.-pt. 9.00-18.00), Ferdinand Boulevard 36, sells tickets for the Constanta-Istanbul ferry, which runs three times a week from mid-May to September (6 time.; 55 $ for a one-way ticket, 90 $ both, payable in western currency or by Visa card). Ferries departed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays Fr. 7.00. It is better to buy tickets in advance. O 6.30 passengers are transported free of charge from Piata Ovidiu to the port.
