Accommodation

Camping – In the hills, 7 km south of Cluj, is Camping Faget (tel.196234; half of the 5th-half of the 10th century), they 143 double and triple bungalows included in the price 5 i 7 $. Setting up a tent costs money 2/3/5 $ for one, two or three people. The restaurant is only open in summer and until 20.00. You go to the campsite by bus #35 z Piata Mihai Viteazul na południe, Truzia street, to the end of the line. There is still some way to go 2 km (the road is signposted).

Private accommodation – Tourism Agenda „Km 0″, at Piaja Unirii 10, proposes rooms included in the price 7 $ from person.

Hotels – For those taking the morning bus to Budapest, the best option is to stay overnight in the inexpensive five-story Delta Hotel (tel.132507), obok Bus station no 2, on the other side of the bridge from the train station (single / double without bathroom 14/22 $).

In a modestly furnished Pax hotel (tel.l36101), in front of the train station on Piata Garii 2, it is noisy, but surprisingly clean. A room with a bathroom costs money 16/26 $.

The cheapest accommodation in the city center is offered by the Vladeasa hotel (Gheorghe Doja street 20, tel.194429) – 17/27 $ for a single / double room with a bathroom. The reception is entered through the gate next to the Vladeas restaurant.

It is a bit more expensive at the Central-Melody hotel (tel.197465) at Piatia Unirii 29 – 18/28 $ for rooms with private bathroom.

Even more is paid in elegant, historic continental (tel.191441), in the southwest corner of Piata Unirii. Rooms, which could use a little renovation, go out or onto a busy street, or to the quiet courtyard. The price of a single / double without a bathroom is 23/36 $, with bathroom 29/44 $.

Hotel Astoria was closed for refurbishment at the time of writing.

Expensive hotels – Luxurious accommodation is offered by Vila Casa Alba, surrounded by a garden (tel.432277), on a quiet street of Emil Racovita 22, at the foot of the citadel hill. A room with a bathroom costs here 65/80 $.

At the 3-star Hotel Transilvania (tel.134466), on the hill of the citadel, with a view of the city, businessmen are eager to stop by; you pay for a room with a bathroom here 55/76 $.

The latest offer for wealthy guests is the ultra-modern Victoria Hotel (tel.197963), boulevard 21 December 1989, with direct telephones and cable TV (price for a room with a bathroom 72/85 $).

Gastronomy

There are several cafes and beer houses on Piata Unirii, but to eat something specific, you have to go to bulevardul Eroilor or strada Gheorghe Doja.

PeP Ristorante is very nice, przy Bulevardul Eroilor 12. The menu offers, among others. veal and chicken dishes, pizza and spaghetti – all delicious. The kitchen is open until 23.00, which is rare in Cluj.

Vita-Bar, at the Gheorghe Doja strade 4, it's a bar with a few tables, mostly take-away (sandwiches, Salads, soups).

There is a very pleasant atmosphere in the Continental Hotel's large dining room, especially in the evening, when the guests are played by a violinist walking between the tables. The menu is dominated by immortal grilled pork.

W Pescarul Restaurant, at the Universitatia strada next to the Arta cinema, you can eat fried instead of pork, fish dripping with fat.

Venison (sometimes quails) they serve at Hubertus (closed. nd.), boulevard 21 December 1989. The small yard is decorated with hunting motifs, and meals traditionally start here with cognac.

Vladeas Restaurant, next to the hotel of the same name, it's a self-service buffet with cheap stews and soups.

O 21.00 most of the restaurants are now closed, so nothing else remains, how to march to the popular New Crolo pizzeria, at the Victor Babes strade, near the botanical gardens (8.00-17.00 i 18.00-1.00).

Cafes – Cofetaria Carpati invites you for coffee and cakes, przy Piata Unirii 3. Casual atmosphere and cheap cakes at Cofetaria Crandafiiul, on the slope of Napoca 12, they attract groups of local students.

Entertainment

Bars and discos – Do Diesel Bar, on the west side of Piata Unirii, MTV fans are eager to visit. Beer is here, unfortunately, ridiculously expensive.

Black and White Disco w Clubul Cultural Studenjcsc (Students club), na rogu Universitatii i Kogalniceanu, is open all year round Thu-Sun. after 21.00.

At the student club at Casa de Cultura Studenteasca, and Peace Square, during the academic year (10th-half of the 5th) there are discos every week. Details can be found on the bulletin board outside.

Theater and classical music – Neo-Baroque National Theater (1906), in Victoriei Square, designed by the famous Viennese architects Fellner and Hellmer. The Hungarian Theater and State Opera are situated at the northern end of the Emil Isac strade, near the river. It's also worth checking out, at the famous courtyard puppet theater on bulevardul Eroilor 8.

Tickets for most of the performances are sold by Agentia Teatrala on bulevardul Eroilor 36.

Journey

Train – Express machines to Oradea run from Cluj (153 km, 2,5 time.), Sighisoary (203 km, 3 time.), Brasov (331 km, 5 time.), Timisoary (331 km, 6 time.) and Bucharest (497 km, 8 time.). With a change, you can get by train to Jass via Gura Humorului and Suceava. To Sibiu sometimes you have to change to Copsa Mica, a do Alba Iulia w Teius. You can buy a couchette to Bucharest.

Bus – Z Bus station no 2, behind the bridge - towards the railway station – The Hungarian Volanbus runs to Budapest three times a week (399 km, 6 $). Tickets available at the bus station.

Z Bus station no 1 at the strade of Aurel Vlaicu, east of the center, depart every day. m.in. buses to Alba Iulia (96 km) i Sybina (173 km).
