Accommodation

Camping – There are two campsites in the area of ​​Sibiu. The closest one is Popas Turistic (tel.422831; VI-IX) behind the Hanul Dumbrava restaurant, 4 km southwest of the city (direct access to the place by trolleybus # T1 from the railway station). They are in dilapidated houses 204 one- and double rooms (11 $). You pay for pitching a tent on a shaded lawn 4,50 $. There is plenty of space, worse with sanitary facilities – closed showers and washrooms have been used as warehouses for several years, and nothing is announced, that they may ever return to their original function.

14 km north of Sibiu, next to the railway to Copsa Mica, leży Baile Ocna Sibiului, with a great campsite in the woods. It is located right next to the station, where all trains stop. Numerous natural lakes and geological peculiarities attract many bathing enthusiasts to Ocna Sibiului.

Private accommodation – EXO Accommodation Office (tel.217971; pn.-pt. 14.00-19.00), in the passage at the strada Nicolae Balcescu, near strada Mare, offers private rooms for the price 9 $ from person; you have to look for "rooms – rooms for rent”.

Hotels – center – Hotel La Podul Minciuniloi invites you to the first block below the Iron Bridge (tel.217259), small, three-room guesthouse on the strada Azilului 1 (13/18 $ for one / two). The situation is similar in the three-room Hotel Halemadero (tel.212509), Masarilor street 10, overlooking a pleasant garden and patio (16/22 $). There is a very nice bar next door.

The three-star Imparatul Romanilor has the most colorful history in Sibiu (tel.216500), przy street Nicoale Balcescu 4. Founded in 1555 r. jacket At the Sultan of the Turks, after visiting 1773 r. Hotels – south of downtown Quite a few hotels are located next to the city stadium, a few blocks south of Continental (a taxi ride from the train station costs money 1,50 $). The largest is the gloomy eight-story Parc Hotel (tel.424455), Swimming School street 3, with rooms at far too exorbitant prices (30/38 $).

Better to opt for the modern three-story hotel Sika (n/fax 217945), Alcoa Eminescu street 1, 30 m to the right of the Parc hotel. Rooms with windows overlooking a quiet park cost money here 16/23 $.

The most profitable in this part of the city would be an overnight stay in the old two-story Sport Hotel (tel.422472), Octavian Goga street 2, east of the Parc Hotel. You pay here 4 $ from person, but rooms are often booked for groups of athletes.

Gastronomy

There are no private eateries in Sibiu, which means, that the tourist is often reliant on hotel restaurants. The restaurant at Imparatul Romanilor is a bit stuffy, but some people appreciate the food there.

On weekdays, you can go to Lacto Bar Uliacul for breakfast, Nicolae Balcescu street 18 (unless someone is unhappy with standing upstairs and yoghurt). Mara Restaurant, Nicolae Balcescu street 21, it's small, quiet bistro with English menu. Everything is fine here except the spaghetti crying out for vengeance.

You can buy fruit and vegetables at the market on Piata Cibin, northeast of Masarilor strada, not far from the Hotel Halemadero.

Entertainment

W Theater Agency, Balcescu street 17, provide information about the Philharmonic's repertoire, located on the strada General Magheru, and the State Theater. Radu Stanca, near Piata Unirii. Disco Bar Mega Vox, at the bottom of the Cultural Center (House of Culture; entrance at the rear of the building), in front of the Continental Hotel, he organizes popular discos during summer weekends.

Shopping

W SurMont Sports (pn.-pt. 9.00-17.00), Avram Iancu street 25, you can buy tents, climbing ropes and containers for drinks, as well as tourist maps in a large selection (some for sale, others for reference only).

Think Pink w Magazinul Dumbrava, in front of the Continental Hotel, sells high-quality sportswear at Western prices.

Who likes original hats, will not be disappointed in a shop with no name on strada 9 May (pn.-pt. 10.00-13.00), from where you can exit for example in the CFR conductor cap or in… Turkish fez.

Journey

Train – There are seven trains a day from Sibiu to Brasov (149 km), three to Arad (254 km, 5 time.), one morning express to Cluj (198 km), one afternoon express to Timisoara, seven passenger to Copsa Mica (45 km, 1 time.), five expressways to Bucharest (335 km, 6 time.) and one overnight train to jass. There is a direct train to Mangalia from mid-June to mid-September. Do Sighisoary (95 km) sometimes you have to change at Copsa Mica or Medias, that of Alba Iulia (92 km) w Vintu de Jos.

Bus – From the bus station – next to the train – departs, among others. one afternoon bus to Sighisoara (92 km) and a few to Medias, where you can catch further calls.
