POIANA BRASOV
By bus #20 in front of the Brasov District Library, you can go to the Poiana Brasov ski area (1020 m n.p.m.), hidden among the mountains 13 km outside the city. There are seven T-bar lifts here, one chairlift and two cable cars (cable). The latter, open all year round, allow you to go to the top of the Postavarul massif (1799 m), from where you can see the Carpathian Mountains.
Possibilities for recreation
The Telecabin B bottom station is close to the Sport Hotel, Telecabin A and the chairlift – near the Hotel Teleferic. All three go high into the mountains, to the area of the Cristianul Mare hut and runs every day. 9.00-17.00 (theoretically; the most you can rely on is the high chair). One way ticket costs 3,25 $.
From Cristianul Mare Hostel you can go down to 4 time. of Timis de Jos (next to the railway line from Sinai to Brasov). Another route leads past the Postavarul chalet back to Poiana Brasov (less than 2 time.), from where it is pleasant to go to Risnov along the direct road down (9 km).
W Equestrian Center, 300 m down the road to Brasov, horse riding enthusiasts can rent a mount (7 $ in an hour.; closed. pn.). The trails in the area are simply breathtaking. In winter, sleigh rides are included in the price 8-10 $ from person.
A public sauna and swimming pool are available at the Alpin hotel (8 $).
Skis – There are no all-day tickets for the lifts, you can, however, for 26 $ buy a weekly ticket, also valid for all cable cars. Skis, shoes and poles are rented by Caraiman Hotel (6 $ per day) and Sportul hotel (10 $ per day).
Night and gastronomy
Hotel vouchers are accepted by the great Ciucas (tel.068/252111), Piatra Mare (tel.068/262226) and the smaller Bradul. Without coupons, the single / double in Piatra Mare costs 36/44 $. Ski holidays in Poiana Brasov are organized by the Happy Travel office in Brasov.
Schronisko Cristianul Mare, On the height 1704 m n.p.m., proposes' semi-private” rooms included 5 $ from person. This large wooden chalet with an adjoining restaurant is open all year round except for a few weeks in November.
15 a minute's walk below Cristianul Mare stands the cheaper Postavarul hostel (1585 m n.p.m.). The atmosphere is nicer here, less tourists, but the shelter is sometimes closed.
