Phone

Romanian telecommunications is considered the worst in Central and Eastern Europe. It's hard to say, or rightly so: seems to, that it works flawlessly on foreign lines, but on the other hand on 1000 inhabitants fall 111 telephone numbers, which is not a sign of an extensive network.

The surest way to get a foreign call is to use a private phone or one of the new ones, orange telephone boxes – by an automatic control panel. Usually there is no problem getting a connection.

To order a call at the telephone exchange, you must pay a deposit equal to the connection fee. If for any reason it is not implemented (no one answers, overloaded line) the returned deposit is reduced by the service fee (ok. 1 $). This can be very irritating, especially in a situation, when waiting for a call for two hours. To call at the expense of the interlocutor, you need to write a name, city and phone number of the requested person, then wait, until its application is communicated by a megaphone.

Rom tekom (state-owned monopolist) began to install orange cameras for international calls in larger cities.

Calling cards appear in larger cities. Major post offices sell cartela telefonica for 3,15 $ i 6,30 $. They allow you to avoid the troublesome standing in lines at the telephone exchange, but that one would be enough for a conversation with Poland, you need to be very brief.
