NEPTUNE-OLYMPUS

Before the revolution 1989 r. Neptune-Olympus, originated in 1960 r. exclusive tourist complex, was managed directly by the Romanian Communist Party and intended exclusively for foreign tourists and important Romanian personalities. After 1989 r. hotels have been privatized and are now accessible to all, at least for those, who can afford it. Due to its special past, it is probably the prettiest and most elegant of the Romanian resorts on the Black Sea coast..

Orientation and information

Neptun-Olimp consists of two towns: Neptune in the south, separated from the sea by two small lakes, and adjacent to the Olimp beach, kilometer north. They are connected by a paved road. The entire resort consists almost entirely of hotels and discos.

travel agency – At the Amphitheater hotel, a pyramidal structure standing in the middle of Olympus, there is a tourist office (tel.731303). The staff does not provide information on private accommodation.

Money – BANCOREX (pn.-pt. 10.00-13.00), near the Decebal Hotel, exchanges traveller's checks, by downloading 3 $ commission.

Post and telecommunications – The post office and telephone exchange are situated in a row of buildings to the north of the Decebal Hotel in Neptune. Code:041.

Accommodation

Camping – To find a place at any of the three campsites in Neptun-Olimp, be here as soon as possible – in summer they are all overcrowded. The Olimp campsite is situated on the northern edge of the tourist area, and Neptune and the nearby Zodiac lie over the lagoon, in the eastern part of Neptune.

Hotels Hotel pass holders should go directly to the ACR Touring office (tel.731873) at the Belvedere Hotel in Olympia (VI-IX). Nice, English speaking staff do their best, to find a free room. You can also buy passes here.

In Olympia, a 15-storey hotel Transilvania (tel.731123; VI-IX) accepts hotel passes. Normal prices are 38 i 47 $ for one- and a double room with bathroom.

Journey

Bus – Private buses run from Constana and Mangalia stop on the main road, 2,5 km from the hotels (information on private carriers in the Travel section of the Constanta subchapter). From there, city buses depart #15 i 20 do Mangalii, 9 km to the south, and #20 do Konstancy, 38 km to the north.

Train – Halta Neptun railway station is located halfway between the two towns,- the hotels can be reached on foot. All passenger and fast trains from Bucharest to Mangalia stop at the station.
