MOLDOVITA

Moldovita Monastery (1532) rises in the middle of a charming village, living its own agricultural life. Just like Suczewica, it is surrounded by a massive defensive wall with towers and an impressive gate. The monastery church is decorated with magnificent frescoes. In recent years, the complex has undergone a major renovation. The nuns look after the monastery.

The fortifications are more impressive than faded frescoes. The defense of Constantinople from 626 r. against the Persians disguised as Turks, and in the vestibule – the final judgment. Inside, on the wall opposite the original carved iconostasis, there is a portrait of Prince Petru Rares (the founder of Moldovita) with family, offering the church to Christ. All the paintings here come from 1537 r. In a small monastic museum, you can see the original prince's throne.

Night and gastronomy

Popas Turistic, between the train station and the monastery, proposes small mobile homes included in the price 4,50 $ from person (mid VI-half IX). You can also pitch a tent here. There is no running water, but it is allowed to use a well in a neighboring farm.

A simple restaurant in the nearby Complex Commercial, on the road to Vama, invites you for zraziki mititeti and draft beer.
