PLANE

The dense network of routes of the state guide TAROM covers the whole country. Many flights to Constanţa take place only in July and August, but planes to other parts of the country depart from Bucharest Banesa Domestic Airport all year round. TAROM has few courses on Sundays.

Foreigners pay much more for tickets for internal flights than Romanians, therefore, this form of travel turns out to be very expensive. Here are some examples of ticket prices for one-way flights from Bucharest: Arad -58 $, Kluż-Napoka – 54 $, Jassy – 62 $, Constance – 48 $, Oradea city – 52 $, Sybin – 54 $, Suceava – 60 $, Timisoara -58 $, Tulcea – 55 $. The price includes the carriage of luggage only up to 10 Kg, but excess baggage fees are minimal.

BUS

Romanian buses are less compact and more congested than trains (and even more dilapidated), and on routes in the provinces they run only one or two times a day. Displayed at bus stations (bus) timetables are often incomplete or out of date, it is always worth to inform yourself at the ticket office. It is better to buy a ticket at the box office, it is not always possible to buy it from the driver, and the driver may not even let a passenger on the bus without a ticket. Sometimes it remains only to buy a ticket the day before, arrive at the station in advance and push yourself onto the bus with the "attacker"” it's a crowd.

In smaller towns, stops are not marked at all. Residents know, where to wait for the bus, probably only because, that from ancient times their ancestors lined up there. A stranger can therefore "on feeling” join a group waiting for something, better, however, will do, asking people about the bus stop. Of course, it is also necessary to ask about the departure times, so as not to bloom unnecessarily on the spot for several hours. Often, private cars stop at the alleged stop, whose drivers are ready to give a lift to travelers in need.

Recently, private transport has started to run on some routes (for example, from Brasov to Bran).

TRAIN

Romanian State Railways (Cailor Ferete Romana, CFR) drive on iron roads of total length 11106 km. Passenger trains (persoane or cursa) deter the technical condition of the rolling stock and general dirt, but fast trains (acceleiat or rapid) not much can be accused of.

In the latter, it is necessary to buy a seat at a price 0,50-3 $. In the absence of it, the conductor claims, that the ticket is invalid, what is associated with it, that the conductor himself is extremely greedy for a bribe in hard currency. Caught traveling in the wrong class pay 6 $ Penalties. Failure to have a ticket is punishable by a penalty 8-11 $.

First Class Ride (clasa intii) costs about 35% more than the second, but it is not an expense: coupon ticket 100 km in the first class of a passenger train costs 1,50 $, and on the express 2,25 $. Fee 500 km of travel is respectively 4 $ i 6,50 $. Considering the relatively reasonable prices, you can afford to use the first class. It is worth remembering, when the mighty queue in front of the second-class checkout window does not seem to be moving forward, departure time is approaching inexorably, and there is no living soul in front of the window selling tickets for first class.

The most reasonable ticket for the express is to buy at the CFR office with one- or two days in advance, without forgetting, that on Saturdays and Sundays they are closed. CFR offices do not sell tickets for fast calls on the day of departure - in this case they are bought at the station one hour before departure. But CFR sells tickets for passenger trains departing on the same day. Complicated? – it's not over yet.

When a traveler lines up for a ticket at the station (for example, on a weekend or intending to take the express on the same day], there is no guarantee, that he will get a seat or even a ticket. It is better to arrive early enough, if only because you first have to find the right queue. Individual ticket offices sell tickets for different directions (and of course only on the first, or second grade): there should be relevant information next to the window.

Switching to another express, you need to rebook your seat, at the station one hour before departure. The train number is marked on the seat, Wagon (vagon) and places (locul).

Happens, that several trains depart in the same direction every half an hour, so make sure, that you get into the right (each wagon has a metal marking).

Having an open ticket for an international train passing through Romania, you can make any stops along the entire route, but getting back on the train accelerat or rapid, you have to pay for the seat again. If the ticket was purchased in Romania, each time you also need to make a surcharge for a hurry.

In the composition of the express usually goes a restaurant car. A meal consisting of a meat dish, salad and large beer costs about 4 $. There are no such luxuries on passenger trains.

Trains running from Bucharest to Arad, Kluża-Napoki, Oradei, Timisoary, Tulcea and other cities are run by sleeping cars (vagon de dormit). Using them allows you to save on accommodation. In the sleeping compartments of the first class there are two beds, in the second three, and second-class couchettes have six seats each. Reservations must be made well in advance at CFR offices in the city. Not the worst are also night journeys on passenger trains not covered by the seat reservation, provided, that it's first class and you get on at the initial station. This way is worth trying, traveling from Brasov to Iaşi.

Frequent users of railway services should buy the Mersul Trenurilor timetable brochure, distributed exclusively by CFR agencies. It costs 1,50 $, but it is priceless. Studying the timetable, need to know, that sosire is arrivals, and plecare – Departures.

Zone tickets

Inter-Rail tickets are accepted in Romania, but their holders must reserve seats for fast trains every time. No additional fees are required for personal persons.
